Youth Partnerships
The City of Anna partners with Anna ISD and others on events and programming to support local youth's career development and civic education.
Middle School
Employability Skills Field Trip: Every spring, students in the Slayter Creek Middle School General Employability Skills classes visit the Anna Municipal Complex to gain exposure to office environments, learn about professionalism, and hear from city staff about their career paths. Staff share a picture of themselves from middle school, talk about mentors and experiences that shaped their career, and tell students about the different certification or educational paths to joining their career.
High School
Explorer's Program: On an ongoing basis, the Anna Police Department manages the Explorer's Program to prepare local teenagers for future roles as citizens, community members, leaders, and law enforcement officers. More information can be found on the Police Department's Community Engagement page.
Junior and Senior Career Fair: Annually, the City's Economic Development Department cohosts a career fair with the Anna ISD Career and Technical Education program. A variety of community members and local businesses participate and give students the opportunity to explore various career paths. Additionally, the fair has sessions on things like soft skills desired by employers.
Life Skills Vocational Program: During the fall and spring semesters, the City of Anna partners with Anna ISD's Special Education Department and the Texas Workforce Commission to host student employees as they develop necessary skills to find a job or begin a career. The students are assigned to work in a department or division within the city and have a job coach who supports them in development of needed skills.
Youth in Government Day: Annually, the city hosts high school students at the Municipal Complex to teach them about local government and civic engagement, engage them in conversations about challenges and opportunities facing local youth, seek their feedback on how we can better serve youth, and support them in becoming active citizens in the future.
