A Code Compliance Officer is a person authorized by the City Council to perform the duties prescribed in the Code of Ordinances. These duties include: routine inspections of properties located within the city limits; issue all necessary notices or orders to ensure compliance with the Code of Ordinances; shall keep official records of all business and activities of the department specified in the provisions of the Code of Ordinances.
Once a violation is discovered, a letter is sent to the property owner of record (all property owner information is researched through Collin County Appraisal District www.collincad.org). The property owner is given ten (10) days to correct the violation. If the violation is not corrected within the allotted time, a citation is sent to the property owner. The Code Compliance Officer will continue to monitor the situation and cite the property owner until the violation is corrected.
The letter should explain what the violation is, and what needs to be done to correct it. If you have any questions, or feel you have received the letter in error, please contact Code Compliance at 972-924-3325.
The letter included with the citation will explain why the citation was sent out. Normally it means that a violation was not corrected within the allotted time given. If you receive a citation, you should correct the violation as soon as possible. At the bottom of the citation are instructions for contacting the Municipal Court. If you have any questions, you can contact Code Compliance at 972-924-3325.
To report a possible violation, you can call 972-924-3325 and speak with a Code Enforcement Officer. You may also leave a message if no one is available to answer your call. You can also fill out the Code Violation Complaint Form on the city website. All reports of possible violations will be followed up with an inspection of the property in question.
The Code of Ordinances (Property Maintenance Codes, Zoning Ordinance, Sign Regulations, etc.) can be found on the website under City Ordinances.
